PORTFOLIO
A Slice of Adventure - A film by Justin Ethington, Jordan Carney & John Mc Keon. ‘I had a blast composing music for this animated film! It’s beautifully crafted and incredibly funny; watching it puts a smile on my face. As a participant in the indie film music contest, I’m thrilled to add this to my portfolio. For this project, I chose to utilize orchestral instruments and focused primarily on Mickey Mousing technique. Each character has its unique charm, which I aimed to reflect in the music through instrument choice and style. Enjoy the show!’
April - Piano piece. ‘April is a piano piece born from the inspiration of the gloomy weather here in the Netherlands recently. It also presented an opportunity for me to collaborate once again with Marta Tobar, a phenomenal cellist from the UK. I have a deep appreciation for the cello and string instruments in general, a passion that often resonates throughout my music.’
Twin Sparks - Original Film by Ollie Yao & Heather Yun. I really enjoyed working on the rescore for Twin Sparks, my recent submission for the IFMC. With each viewing, I appreciated more how beautifully its theme of self-acceptance is portrayed.
While the protagonist is young, the story feels mature, so I aimed for a balanced musical approach. I chose a classical orchestral arrangement to showcase a different side of my composing style and because it suited the film. I used Mickey Mousing techniques but also sought moments of musical freedom. Ultimately, I relied on intuition to reflect the film’s emotional depth. I hope you enjoy my interpretation!
With or without you - Orchestral Rearrangement. This piece is a re-arrangement of one of my all-time favorite songs, "With or Without You" by U2. It holds special meaning for me and my partner, which inspired me to create this arrangement as a gift for his birthday last summer. My goal was to craft a string arrangement with a grand climax that doesn’t strictly follow the original melody but subtly evokes it. As the piece unfolds, you begin to recognize the song, hearing echoes of the original woven into the orchestration.
